We have created a very special place within the heart of our villa to share with our beautiful babies and toddlers.
Our Kaiako are inspired by the practices of Reggio Emilia and acknowledge that we are emerging learners of this approach.
We value the environment as the ‘third teacher’; we provide a sunny and very spacious indoor play space that has room for crawling, rolling, climbing and walking. Richly resourced with natural objects that promote curiosity and wonder; our aim is to stimulate children’s engagement, imagination and exploration of both learning tools and spaces available to them.
Planning for our children’s learning is guided by aspirations from whānau. This is what we use to support and guide individual children as they move forward with their developmental milestones and become interested in the people and things around them. Collaboration with whanau is they key to our assessment processes and information is documented on Story Park and within Portfolio’s.
Kaiako are continuously in dialogue informally about the needs and interests of each child. Every two weeks kaiako meet formally at a staff meeting to evaluate children’s learning and discuss steps forward for individual children. Whanau are very much part of this process and are welcome to contribute at the level they choose.
Kaiako share the information gathered with other team members so that all staff have opportunities to know what is happening for each child.
