Early Childhood Teacher
My initial teaching degree BEd(tchg) was in Primary School teaching. I completed this degree in 2001 and became fully registered. I then decided I wanted to teach in Early Childhood. I completed the Graduate Diploma in ECE in 2017. For the past 7 years I have taught in two centres that were heavily influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach – which is something I have brought into my own teaching philosophy. I spent a week in Reggio Emilia (Italy) at the annual conference in 2015. I use this valuable experience at Impact Childcare, particularly in my work in the Atelier with the older children. My focus is to encourage and challenge the children to question, hypothesise, research, discuss and become thinkers! We do this through project work.
I have a genuine love for young children and love to experience the wonder through their eyes as they explore their world. I value each child’s uniqueness and I have a strong interest in supporting children with additional needs.
I have two adult children who both live in Auckland and I moved to Whangarei in June, 2019 to care for my elderly mother.
