Kia Ora, my name is Kath. I am originally from the Wellington region but have lived on and off in Whangarei since 2010. I have 2 teenage daughters, 2 cats and new fur baby – a dog named Radar.
I have travelled to many parts of the world, but my favourite area is South East Asia where I lived and taught for a few years in Myanmar. I also had the privilege of living for a year in India so enjoyed holidays visiting some amazing places. I love experiencing and learning from all people. I have degrees in history and geography. I was a late bloomer when I entered the teaching profession – having formally worked for a bank, IRD, and admin role in a council in the UK where I lived for 4 years. I am trained in both primary and early childhood education.
I love DIY, cross-stitching, reading, gardening, and getting creative with craft projects – there is always something I am tinkering with, or a project in the pipeline.
My philosophy in teaching has always been about supporting and encouraging children to take risks, to build and facilitate relationships to build confidence, and resilience, to try new things and develop a love of learning. I am really excited about joining the Impact Team and being a part of your child’s journey.
